Dallas, TX 75231
United States
+1 214 691 0033
This is authentic Ethiopian cuisine with a touch of Americana. Experience a taste of Ethiopian culture along with preferential treatment while dining in this family-run restaurant. It is a great place for young and old to experience foods and traditions from other cultures. The Abyssinia believes less is more so that nothing distracts you from the food and interacting with the wait staff. You'll "go native" when you forego utensils and eat Ethiopian-style by scooping up dinner with soft bread called injera. Experience sambusa, quiche and a variety of vegetarian dishes. If you're less adventurous, choose the grilled chicken or a good old-fashioned burger.

Aw Shucks

Great seafood on Greenville Avenue
3601 Greenville Ave
Dallas, TX 75213
United States
+1 214 821 9449
This popular Greenville Avenue hot spot is a great place to get some no-frills, fresh seafood in a relaxed atmosphere. Scarf down a dozen raw oysters before taking in a movie at the Granada Theater across the street or grab several dozen for take-out. Aw Shucks is reminiscent of the good-old days—it relies on the honor system for payment. On your way out, tell the cashier how much you ate and they'll tally your bill. The front room is small but most people eat outside or get take out so the steady stream of patrons usually doesn't get unmanageable. Do not let the name fool you—raw oysters are not the only thing on the menu. Peel-and-eat shrimp and crab legs are favorites, but there are plenty of other grilled and fried seafood offerings. Make your cocktail sauce according to your taste at the self-serve condiment bar—a dash of horseradish can really spice it up.

Rustic tables and a comfortable Deep Ellum location make Baker's Ribs perfect for the downtown crowd. There is nothing fancy about the decor, but most serious BBQ eaters are more interested in the juicy, lean sliced beef as opposed to the wallpaper. The seasoned brisket and ribs are perfectly complemented by an array of side dishes. The chopped Beef Baked Spuds are tasty too.

This is a classic burger shack located near Southern Methodist University's campus. The burgers are phenomenal. You may wait up to an hour for your lunch on a busy Saturday. This nostalgic open-air burger stand has been located on Hillcrest for years. Picnic tables are scattered around and there is an old-fashioned burger bar inside. Hands down, the hamburgers are the big winners with the Garlic-Salted Fries coming in a close second. Hot dogs, corny dogs, or thick and frosty milkshakes round out the menu of this 1950s classic burger stand.

Buttermilk Cafe & Market is the offspring of Dale Wamstad's III Forks steakhouse. Without a doubt, it offers outstanding, memorable home cooking. Farmhouse items on the dining room walls complement the country decor. The front area resembles a diner with counter and booth seating. Prime beef is sold at retail here, as are fresh produce and some side and entree items. Some of the best entrees include Corned Beef and Cabbage, Liver and Onions, and Roast Turkey with dressing. For breakfast, try the Garbage Omelet (a varying mixture stuffed into a huge three-egg omelet). Be sure to try the homemade Ice Cream, made with twice the buttermilk as usual.

Café San Miguel serves Mexican food with some unique twists. The décor is modest, except for the startling, ubiquitous statue of St. Anthony in the ladies room. The statue stands on its head, in accordance with a Latin American custom in which, women position it in such a way until the worthy saint intercedes for them and finds them a good husband. Cocktails are aplenty, don't miss out on them. Dishes such as, Alambres Mary Tierra, comprised of giant prawns are created to seduce the taste buds. The service, however, leaves much to be desired, so be prepared to wait.

Café Brazil is a Dallas institution and while there are a few locations around town, each one distinctly represents the area it's located. The two main locations are in Deep Ellum and by Southern Methodist University and both are open 24/7. It is quite common to see students burning the midnight oil, people getting out of the clubs, truck drivers and attorneys at all hours tucking into the great food. The sandwiches are on thick slices of homemade bread and piled high with toppings. The omelets are made with farm fresh eggs and served with rosemary potatoes and grilled bread. The Brazilian Beef Sandwich is piled high with beef fajitas, mushrooms, bell peppers on homemade herb wheat bun and the Barbecue Salmon with fried sweet potatoes and Steamed Broccoli is amazing. There are 7 different choices daily for your bottomless cup of coffee kick. - Raine Devries

Come to this dining hall and praise the culinary talents of the students of the Art Institute of Dallas. You can get a hearty meal in a luxurious setting at an affordable price. The students prepare the dishes that they've learned and the menu includes Cuban Sandwich with Honey Ham, Smoked Pork and Swiss Cheese. There is also a crispy Asian Caesar Salad with ginger dressing. For the hardcore meat eaters, there is NY Strip Loin or Cardamom glazed Duck Breast.

Owner Pascal Cayet's bistro boasts a true gourmet French atmosphere with an adjacent patio that faces the action on McKinney Avenue. Chez Gerard offers a charming and relaxed eating experience. The tiny tables are dressed in brilliant white linens that match the serving towels the waiters carry on their forearms. The service is incredibly efficient and extremely polite. Epicural selections include Garlic Snails and Frog Legs, Pheasant and Sweetbread Mousseline and Veal Liver with Raisins. The vast wine list is dotted with semi-obscure French wines.
